Runway's Approach to a Healthy Work Environment
In business, a healthy work environment has proven to pay off in numerous ways. One study found that workers who took an exercise break at lunch showed an overall performance boost of 15%. Additionally, 60% of employees reported that their productivity and ability to meet deadlines improved. Workers were also less likely to succumb to afternoon energy dips after exercising. Endorphins released during exercise give people more self-confidence and energy, resulting in more positivity and less stress.
In efforts to bring its members together and help cultivate a healthy work environment, our Community Events and Marketing Manager, Diana Nitescu, spearheaded the Health Initiative Project. She explains that, “In a fast-paced environment where life is run by technology, we need to bring an organic approach to maintain a healthy existence. Through nutrition, fitness and mindfulness, we aim to cultivate a nurturing working space.” With this project, Runway Incubator offers its members a number of perks: Fresh smoothies made in house on a weekly basis, massages, a chiropractor and bi-weekly fitness events.
ToneUpTuesdays with Revive
Understanding the importance of a healthy work environment and the specific needs and goals of Runway, ToneUpTuesday was created as a bi-weekly, hour and a half long event that combines networking and fitness. Started by Revive (a new group fitness app) and hosted by the Runway Incubator, the event consists of a boot camp style workout, fresh squeezed juice from Living Greens and industry leaders sweating side-by-side with startup mavericks.
The first of this event was this past Tuesday, November 17! It kicked off with a fun, partner based exercise program where attendees were encouraged to team up with new people for drills, bypassing the awkward ‘icebreaker phase,’ typical of networking mixers. Revive Founder and CEO Manny Parra says, “We’re trying to connect people in a more meaningful way. By working out together in a fast paced, partner-based exercise program, and, in a sense, overcoming hardship together, people allow themselves to connect on a deeper level than they do over drinks and small talk.”
